Cutting-edge spectrometer technology

Lasers are continuously improving, both in terms of focus and energy levels. As manufacturers get better at producing the light, the demand grows for better tools to measure it. Whether you’re looking to measure reflection, transmission, or interaction, the spectrometers we distribute on behalf of LightMachinery, Inc. offer cutting-edge technology. We are a team of physicists and engineers with experience collaborating with the academic community—talk to us about your spectrometer needs.

High resolution measurements

With LightMachinery Spectrometers, it’s possible to resolve the laser frequency to a really high level, a difference in 2 lines of 0.5 picometers. For example, blue light is 400nm. So you could measure this wavelength to 1 picometer or 1/400,000th of the blue light.

You can’t do that with just any spectrometer. LightMachinery spectrometers make this possible through their patented fluid jet polishing technology. They use this to create something called VIPAs, which is at the heart of their spectrometer range.

How VIPAs work

A virtually imaged phased array (VIPA) is a form of etalon. It’s like an interference filter. The light enters and then bounces backwards and forwards between the specially coated surfaces. The custom fluid jet polishing is used to create the etalon with an extremely flat surface better than lambda/100 peak to valley (PV). This is what allows for such a high-resolution spectrometer. Light Machinery also has specialty coatings they use on their VIPAs. The result is a leading range of spectrometers suitable for scientific research applications.

Types of spectrometer

With Raymax and LightMachinery, there are many types of spectrometers to choose from. Whether you want picometer resolution with a decent range or nanometer resolution with a much broader range, we can advise you. The spectrometers can measure the full range of wavelengths, from UV all the way up to infrared. Light Machinery offers a range of spectrometers that measure scattered light or high-intensity sources.

Got a special application?

This is leading science that wasn’t available 5 years ago. One example from LightMachinery’s impressive range is the “Green Killer” Brillouin HyperFine Spectrometer. This special technology uses custom optics to suppress the green light from the pump laser to provide for a 75db dynamic range. It’s fast, offers MHz precision and is easy to use.

But if you’re at the cutting edge of research and are looking for a custom solution, talk to us. We can liaise with you and LightMachinery to build a custom spectrometer to your requirements.

Why Raymax?

We make laser light work for you. We’ve spent over 30 years demonstrating what’s possible with lasers. In doing so, we’ve helped modernise Australian and New Zealand industries. You’ll be working with a team of physicists and factory-trained engineers—leaders in the supply of laser solutions and photonics equipment. We’re experts in material interaction research. Wherever possible, you’ll be introduced to new technology that can improve operation in ways you might not have imagined possible.
